On the immediacy of image making, bad pictures, and the push and pull between viewer, object, and space.
“These are pictures I've been making for years now, a form of street photography and portraiture, but conditioned by the immediacy of making a photograph of something I come across and have only seconds to picture. I'm thinking about my images as ready-made: compositions and scenes that my subconscious has managed to manifest in reality, a visual representation of a dream world. I'm thinking about the urban landscape, the casual image, what makes a photo beautiful, who gets away with bad photographs, and Hito Steyerl's concept of a poor image. I print my photographs out on poster board and nail them to the wall, removing the preciousness of the object through a single action. These are images of degradation, and the aftermath of human action and intervention.”
