Hanging Hair's motivation is to explore the relationship with hair in the African American community, tracing its roots and questioning how it serves as a means of expressing identity. In parallel, it critiques the overconsumption of hair extensions often used to hide natural hair, highlighting how capitalist consumption of these extensions reflects beauty and societal standards rooted in the legacy of slavery and anti-Blackness ideologies.
