Navel Radiation (Dead Sea) was inspired by salt as a material of memory and resistance, and by the Dead Sea as both a physical and symbolic site—where bodies are suspended in hypersalinity amidst ecological collapse and political fracture. The work is deeply informed by the ongoing violence in Palestine, where land, history, and identity are under relentless siege. Overlaying the Palestinian flag within a decaying digital terrain speaks to the erasure and resilience of a people continually resisting dispossession. The shifting cave-sea space becomes a site of grief and refusal, calling attention to the brutality of colonization while offering an imagined geography outside the logic of occupation.

Ursula K. Le Guin’s writings on world-building—especially her emphasis on speculative fiction as a tool to imagine otherwise—guide the conceptual framework of the work. She writes, “We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings.” This piece extends that impulse: to build a world where grief and care co-exist, where digital space becomes a site for political imagination and ancestral memory.
